Summary

Bordeaux lies many miles inland from the sea on the river Garonne in the south-west of France. Its port, Port Saint-Jean, was one of the busiest commercial ports in France in the nineteenth century. The area is one of the largest wine producing regions in the world. More than half of the known specimens of the "Post Office" stamps were found here.
