Summary

George V was a keen philatelist and was a member of the Philatelic Society London (later Royal Philatelic Society). Elected president of the Society in 1896, the Prince of Wales (as he was then) remained so until his accession to the throne in 1910. He specialised in the stamps of the British colonies, bearing his father's and grandmother's likenesses. Bonar's 'Blue Mauritius' was purchased on his behalf at auction in 1904, in which year he also aquired the Duvivier ball envelope.
