Mauritius Post Office, Port Louis

Functions
Postal service
Summary

An official postal service in Mauritius dates back to 1772, when the island was under French rule. It fell into disuse and was revived by the British in 1834. The island's first postage stamps were issued in 1847.

The main Port Louis post office found itself in a number of buildings over the years, until a purpose-built post office was constructed in the late 1860s, inaugurated in 1870.
