I love this sentiment from Séfi:

"Meanwhile, the collector would, I hope, if he had but common stamps, taken an added interest in them for all they brought back to him, while the fortunate possessor of the rarities would appreciate them the more because he knew why they were rare, while I - well, I just go on weaving the past round a postage stamp."
