Facebook censored in Mauritius

November 12th, 2007

I’m not a fan of Facebook. I think it’s a horcrux. It chews up way too much bandwidth and is, ergo, bad for the environment (although I’ve enjoyed a quiet game of Scrabulous with friends every now and then).

However, within the last week the Mauritius Government (apparently) directed Mauritian ISPs to block local access to Facebook for a period because a false profile of the Prime Minister had been discovered on it. Like a number of Mauritian bloggers I find that cause for concern.
