Guessing games
In the spirit of footy tipping (which I’m really getting into this year - I’m on 8 after round 2 of the AFL season - damn those Saints!) I think it is time to play guessing games. Will the baby be early or late (due 25 April)? Will it be big or small? Boy or girl? Will I win the battle of naming a boy Germanicus? (Unlikely. Unless we change our mind, both the boy’s and girl’s name we have chosen have four letters, and one has one syllable only and the other two.) Add your guess as to day, time, weight, gender, name here!
We have correct weight:
Date: 28 April 2007 - nobody got it, and good for you Iris, you keep ‘em guessing!
Time: 7.46am - nobody got that either, ditto.
Weight: 3.76kg (8lb something, which I think most people thought - I felt every ounce).
Gender: Girl - surprised us all!
Name: Iris Angela Morgan Pursad - Suzy Salter I take my hat off to you - how did you guess?!

I predict an early arrival, between the 15th and 21st April (and hopefully you’ll be keen for him/her to arrive early by then). To be precise, let’s say:
Wednesday 18 April, 10pm
Weight - let’s go for a hefty 8.5 pounder (sorry, Helen, hope i’m wrong)
Gender - it’s a girl
Name - no idea!
Good luck, Helen!
Four letters eh? Does this apply only to the christian name? Because if it does, then clearly, she will be called Anna Nicole.
Arriving: 25 April 2007, 5:45 am
Weight: no idea
Gender: yes
Boy name: Jon (with an invisible ‘n’ at the end)
Girl name: Sofé (hard to get Sophie into four letters)
I’ll be different and say she will arrive late - 3am on 27 April. 3.5 kilogram girl.
No idea about names, but think of all the nicknames the poor kid will have if you call it Germanicus…
Are we allowed two guesses? He will be named Alan or she will be named Ruth; be born on 22nd April at 10 minutes after 3.00 A.M. Saints be praised that Mike won’t be interested in Germanicus. I’ve been dreading that since your Year 12 Roman Studies. I reckon 8lb 14oz.
God forbid that he should ever be called Alan (despite Allan being Mike’s second name). God forbid Mon!
And what’s with this eight pound business??!!
Only the first name Nikki. We don’t have a middle name for the boy, but do for the girl, and it is six letters, so who knows, you may be right!
Jonathan, I like your optimism!
Ah, but Germanicus is so strong and manly…
She will be born on Monday 23rd April at 10.19 P.M. She will be named Emma and weigh 3.1 kg. If it is a boy, he will be named Adam.
Time and date: I’m thinking 11.15am, smack in the middle of the Anzac Day march 25 April
Weight: a nice, huge 10 lbs
Name: Diga (girl or a boy’s name - only way to fit Digger into four letters).
Hoping for a smooth, short and sweet labour. I shall not bore you with the stories of my 24 and 36 hour respectively episodes. I won’t mention them at all…good luck. We’re thinking of you both. (And don’t worry about the Saints - the Demons are worse. Only round two and the year’s already shot. I’m starting my planning for 2008 already!)
Oh yeah, I forgot about Melbourne Georgie! I’m such a glass half empty person that I feel that way about the Saints after injuries and woeful effort. But there may be hope for us both yet, for how long can Hawthorn remain in the eight (sorry Nikki)?
I’m still crossing fingers for April 25, as it is exactly six months before mine and who wouldn’t want a public holiday for their birthday.
Ten pounds though?! 3.1kg sounds about right Pete. I’ve only put on 8.5kg myself.
Fourletters? I was thinking you might go for Mauritania - Tania for short.
Boy’s name? no idea, but I do think it’s a boy.
Wishing you joy.
Preeti if its a girl (I’m ignoring all your clues)and Rio if its a boy, and I think it will be a boy who will grow up to play for Carlton (in which case you better not call him Rio). He’ll arrive late, after the due date, but early in the morning maybe 6.38am, and will weigh at least 9 pounds.
I was sure you were having a boy called Benoit, but that’s too many letters! So I’m going to guess a 4 kg (about 9 lb) baby boy born within 2 days either side of the due date and called Yves. Of course, you may well have a 3 kg baby girl born on the due date called Sian. I’m guessing a middle name of Morgan!
Actually, Benoit we did think about, Angela. For awhile I was keen on Benedicte for a girl too.
Ages ago I wanted to have a Padmini Rachel, but Mike put the kibosh on that too! Preeti Pursad does have a nice ring to it. Carlton, NO WAY!
Thanks Jill!
The obstetrician just told me (this morning) that the baby is completely ready to pop, so those who have gone for early may just well be right…
Wow, soooooooo exciting! I wonder if we will make our lunch date next Wednesday or if baby Morgan-Pursad has other plans.
Now that the obstretrician has had their say, I’ll go for Thursday 19 at 9.52pm and about 8lb 4. Names - Aaron, Fraser, Lenny, Robert are too long so if its a boy it must be Luke or Nick. Four letters for a girl? How about Abba meaning born on a Thursday (see http://www.aussiethings.com.au/babynames/agirl.htm)
In light of your obgyn’s comments, can I change my suggestion? I’m kind of leaning towards sometime during the next St Kilda game on 14 April, right on the final siren, with Morgan-Pursad Jr to be called G-train - perfect for either gender really.
Oooh Fraser, now why didn’t I think of that?!
Georgie, a Flickr contact of mine is already calling this baby the B-train!
25 April 2007, a boy, 7lb 13oz, Jack (between 11.00 and 12.00) and Lucy if it’s a girl.
22 April 2007 - not my birthday :( - 8lb 1oz, between 13.00 and 15.00 - a girl, Iris, and if it is a boy, Hugo.
26 April 2007, 8lb 8oz, between 0100 and 0400, a girl called Rose.
A prompt arrival on 25 April, but very early in the morning, some time between 1 & 2am
7lb 4oz
blond boy (so he can play for you know who…)
Clinton, or some other saintly name?
Hmmm, Andy, I’m hoping you’re right about the early, on-time arrival, but we’ll all be worried if he’s blond and doesn’t bear some resemblance to his dad!
Toddler Mike!
Hi Helen,
Julia here, we met at the British Library. I just dropped into say April 25 is a very good date, as it’s my birthday!
Hi Julia, yes, I remember - you were off on a holiday the next day. I really do hope the baby comes on its due date, because I am sick of waiting!
I’ve come into this late but here goes…..
Born Thursday 26th April
Boy
8lb 3oz
Can not comprehend name . I like the name Emma if it were by chance a girl
I have also come into this very late, it must be getting close now.
Born: Sunday 29 April 2007.
Weight: 8 and a half pounds.
Name: for a boy Luke, Paul or George.
Name: for a girl Anna.
Helen, you might be interested that Cor Lumen Christi in England had a baby called George and it somehow really suited him!
I’ve come into this much too late…so late, that I’m convinced she’ll be Iris and the apple of her mom and dad’s eye!
