You may call me Flickr Goddess… again!
Yay! Those who know me will know I love Flickr. When Flickr’s tubes were clogged the other week, I was, naturally, in need of a Flickr fix – a work day wouldn’t be complete if it didn’t involve Flickr somehow – so I entered the flickrcolourcontest.
The big bag of archival quality multicoloured plastic paper clips we use at work came to mind, and, with one or two glasses of champagne in hand (we happened to have a bottle handy in the fridge… and it was Friday afternoon, ahem) and the assistance of my colleagues, we sorted the blue and red clips from the hoi polloi and I coloured away.
This shot shows Gavan McCarthy, my boss, improving my efforts – and it won one of fourteen free Pro accounts in the contest, so I’m paid up till November 2007. Thanks Flickr folk!
Why do I love Flickr?
Many reasons. Here’s a simple and personal one. I love that my pictures are being widely viewed and giving pleasure to others. I find myself constantly framing shots in my mind now, with or without the camera. I find beauty and potential in everyday things that I would not in times past have given a thought to, such as a bird perched on a pair of forlorn milk crates beside a Carlton terrace. Flickr has given me an outlet for creativity and communication that I barely knew I was capable of or needed. I have become a citizen journalist, even if it is only of unconsidered trifles.

Helene cherie,
Congratulations on your gorgeous website! I’m just back from a road trip to the south coast of NSW and received the link. It looks just beautiful and you are doing a great job of maintaining it. Thanks, too, for continuing to promote ‘Behind the Night Bazaar’. I look forward to doing likewise once ‘Blue Mauritius’ hits the bookshelves here. And congratulations, too, on your results in the Flickr contest. What were the rules?
Bravo!
Angela xxx
No rules! Flickr was down for a few hours (which is torture for a Flickr tragic like me), so they had a colouring competition to while away the hours, and I entered!
I still don’t know when the book is going to hit the shelves here, but I finally received my author copies today. That’s a start!
Hi Helen,
Congratulations on winning the Flickr contest! My favorite one of yours is the single row of blue and red clips, where from afar (or simply from the tiny Flickr thumbnail), it looks like the irises of eyes. It sounds like you also have a cool boss.
Thanks for stopping by at my Flickr post as well. My love for Flickr happened only by accident. I was looking for a site to post pictures for my blog and signed up for a free account. Within 2 weeks, I was completely hooked on Flickr and NEEDED to get a pro account. It is a wonderful community.
I love your beautiful blog as well.
Angela.
Thanks Angela. I only lasted a day or two I think with a free account before upgrading to a Pro account, so it’s very nice to get the free one up until November next year!
I’m still feeling my way with this blog, and already feeling pressure to post – haven’t been greatly inspired of late. I think I need to read more of other people’s blogs!
Only one flickr post so far Helen?!? I’m surprised this hasn’t become the unofficial flickr blog :) More, I say…
